Update: Due to anticipated heavy rains, Ram Van service will end Thursday evening at 10 p.m. from Rose Hill and 11 p.m. from Lincoln Center, and will resume at both campuses at 7 a.m. Friday morning.
Dear Members of the Campus Community,
New York City Emergency Management has issued a travel advisory for the area: a Flash Flood Watch is in effect citywide from 4 p.m. Thursday through 8 a.m. Friday.
According to the National Weather Service, rain and scattered thunderstorms are forecast citywide beginning Thursday afternoon through Friday. Maximum rainfall rates are forecasted to potentially reach 1 inch per hour. The greatest chance of heavy rain and thunderstorms is from 6 p.m. Thursday through 2 a.m. Friday. There is also a potential for 60 mph wind gusts during periods of heavy rainfall and severe thunderstorms.
Please use caution while walking on campus, and avoid walking near or under large trees. Avoid walking through flooded areas. As few as six inches of moving water can knock a person over. Consider remaining indoors this evening and avoid traveling, since even subways can become flooded given a large volume of rain within a 24-hour period.
To prepare for possible power outages, charge cell phone batteries, gather supplies, and turn your refrigerator and freezer to a colder setting. If you lose power, items that need refrigeration will stay cooler for longer.
Local weather forecasts are imprecise, and the storm may be worse than predicted. As always, members of the University community should take local conditions into account when traveling to or from campus.
In an emergency, please call Fordham Public Safety at (718) 817-2222.
Sincerely,
John Carroll, Associate Vice President
Fordham Department of Public Safety
