Dear Members of the Campus Community:
Here are this week’s five things you need to know about Fordham’s COVID-19 precautions, vaccinations, and University operations:
- New York state’s criteria for pausing in-person instruction and activities has changed: the threshold is now an infection rate of 5% or greater of the on-campus population, or 100 cases—whichever is higher—within the most recent 14 days, provided that at least 25 percent of the on-campus population is tested each week.
- In the last 14 days 250 people in the University community tested positive for COVID-19, a positivity rate of 4.61%, as listed on the University dashboard.
- In-person instruction and activities remain paused at Rose Hill though Saturday, Feb. 27: the University will decide whether conditions permit resuming in-person activities at that time. Among the items enumerated in New York state’s Feb. 19 guidance are “In-person athletics, extracurricular programs, and non-essential student activities must be suspended.”
- DNA sequencing of positive test samples has revealed that a case of the UK variant of the COVID-19 virus is present at the Rose Hill campus. This variant is more infectious than the previously dominant strain, and makes strict observance to COVID-19 precautions on and off campus even more important.
- Wear a mask, on and off campus. The CDC recommends masks that are at least two-ply, cover your nose and mouth, and fit snugly on your face.
