Early Jewish-American Entrepreneurs: The Emergence of the Yiddish and Hebrew Press in the United States.

In this lunch seminar, Jewish studies is proud to host Yael Levi, whose work examines the beginnings of the Hebrew script periodical press in the United States in the second half of the 19th century, focusing on its material, cultural, social, economic, and political aspects. Among the questions Levi examines is a meeting point of two dominant features of modernization: the transatlantic migration from the old world to the new world and the rise of the press as a mass media within the Jewish American context.

All Fordham events in Jewish studies are free and open to public.
