Celebrating the Life of Vincent Edward Scully
Wednesday, March 22, 2023, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Please join us for a memorial Mass to celebrate the life of the legendary Vin Scully, FCRH ’49, who for 67 years served as the beloved voice of the Dodgers, becoming renowned for his poetic yet plainspoken baseball narration as well as the wisdom and generosity that characterized all his life’s pursuits.
A Bronx native, Scully graduated from Fordham Preparatory School in 1944 and served briefly in the U.S. Navy before enrolling at Fordham College at Rose Hill. He first learned the broadcasting trade at WFUV, the Fordham public media station founded during his undergraduate years.
His honors number in the dozens, including an honorary doctorate from Fordham, a posthumous 2023 Fordham Founder’s Award, induction into the broadcasters’ wing of the National Baseball Hall of Fame, and the Presidential Medal of Freedom, presented by President Barack Obama in 2016.
Faith was the bedrock of Vin Scully’s life. According to his family, “He never missed an opportunity to owe every blessing and success to the Grace of God.”
Cardinal Timothy Dolan, Archbishop of New York, will preside over Mass.
