2019 St. Patrick’s Day Brunch and Parade
Saturday, March 16, 2019, 10:00 am – 3:00 pm
Note: Attendees are welcome to join us for the parade and/or brunch. If you join us for brunch, we will walk over to the parade location together. If you join us for the parade only, please meet us at our lineup location at approximately 12:30 (we are currently awaiting official timing and location information from the St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee. The page will be updated ASAP).
Brunch Information
A pre-parade brunch will be hosted at 10 a.m. at the Yale Club. This event costs $45 per adult and $20 per child.
During this brunch, we will hear from Fordham’s own Cathal Pratt, graduate coordinator and Ph.D. candidate in English, as well as Joseph M. McShane, S.J., president of Fordham University.
Cathal Pratt is a Ph.D. candidate in English specializing in Irish and Latin American literature. He holds an M.A. in Irish and Irish-American studies from New York University and a B.A. in English from the University of Utah. His current research focuses on modern and postmodern transatlantic literature and theater, particularly Irish and Argentine interactions. His articles have appeared in ABEI: The Brazilian Journal of Irish Studies and The American Journal of Irish Studies, and he has written for Breac and Walking the Worlds. Outside of academia, he is a folk musician.
Please note that registration is required for both the brunch and the parade. The brunch requires payment, and the parade is free.
Parade Information
Michael Griffin, associate vice president for alumni relations, and the Office of Alumni Relations invite you to march with Fordham in the 258th Annual New York City St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
When you arrive at our lineup location, please look out for the big Fordham balloons!
Marchers are required to abide by the official St. Patrick’s Day Marching Rules and Dress Code.
Parade Dress Code
The dress code for the parade is comfortable business attire. All Fordham participants must wear a Fordham sash to march with Fordham University. Sashes will be distributed at both the brunch and at Fordham’s lineup location. Fordham baseball caps will also be distributed. Sashes will be collected by Fordham staff at the end of the parade and re-used for future marching, but the baseball caps are yours to keep.
Parade Rules
1. Green hats, beads, and other costume dress are not permitted in the reviewing stands.
2. No animals or mascots will be permitted along the parade route or in the stands.
3. There is absolutely no consumption of alcohol permitted. This is not just our rule, it’s NYC law. Additionally, people displaying public drunkenness will be removed from the parade route by the NYPD.
4. Safety is our utmost concern. Please remember that all backpacks and large bags are subject to search by NYPD.
Can’t march?
The parade is televised live to millions of households nationwide for four hours by host station WNBC Channel Four. The broadcast is webcast live via the internet through the parade’s website at nycstpatricksparade.org and the WNBC Channel Four website at wnbc.com.
