Members of the University community may have received email or read an article in which the U.S. Department of Education has warned of an “active and ongoing exploitation” (CVE-2019-8978), a security flaw in Ellucian’s Banner system that may have given hackers access to student data such as grades, financial information, and Social Security numbers at some colleges and universities.
At this time there have been no known security breaches at Fordham University related to this issue.
Fordham University uses Ellucian Banner, and has a proactive security and maintenance schedule that addressed the issue as soon as the appropriate patches became available. Our systems are managed directly by Ellucian and were among the first to have the updates and patches installed when they were released in May.
