A public hearing on WFUV’s proposed radio tower will be held on Thursday, June 27, 10 a.m. to noon, at the New York Botanical Garden and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the McGinley Center Ballroom, Fordham University in the Bronx. After the morning session, WFUV City Folk and Celtic artists and on-air hosts will present a free midday concert from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. in the McGinley Center. Construction of the radio transmission tower, which was halted eight years ago by lawsuits by the Botanical Garden, is necessary for WFUV to comply with FCC standards. Fordham’s right to complete the tower has been affirmed by every government agency and court that has considered the issue. The University has, for 19 years, studied more than 25 other sites for the tower but none have met the strict requirements of the Federal Communications Commission and the Federal Aviation Administration. The hearing is open to the public. For more information about the morning session call Kathy Leak at (718) 817-8972. For information about the afternoon session, call Joseph Muriana, Fordham University’s associate vice president for government and urban affairs, or DeeDee Alter at (718) 817-3020.
