The University mourns the death of Michael Sheahan, a longtime administrator and member of the Board of Trustees who served as University secretary for 22 years before retiring in 1990.
Sheahan, 88, a native of the Bronx who also served in the Army during World War II, died on Thursday, Feb. 23. He joined the Fordham staff in 1957 and was named University secretary in 1968.
During that time, served as executive secretary of the University Council from 1967 to 1979, the Board of Lay Trustees from 1958 to 1969 and the Board of Trustees from 1969 to 1990.
He was also a contributor to As I Remember Fordham: Selections from the Sesquicentennial Oral History Project (Fordham University Press, 1991).
He is survived by his wife Alice, his children Eileen Ludwig and Peggy Sheahan Knee and grandchildren Christopher M. Ludwig, Nicholas R. Ludwig, Heather M. Ludwig, Kylie Knee and Mollie Knee.
A wake was held Sunday, Feb. 26, at the Feeney Funeral Home, in Ridgewood, N.J., and a mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, Feb. 27, at St. Luke’s Roman Catholic Church in Ho-Ho-Kus, N.J. Condolences may be sent to Feeney Funeral Home, 232 Franklin Avenue, Ridgewood, NJ, 07450.
