Fordham University mourns the death of Gregory Davis, a first year Graduate School of Business student. Davis, who was 28, died suddenly at home.
“Our hearts go out to Greg’s family and friends in this dark hour,” said Joseph M. McShane, S.J., president of Fordham University. “A bright light, he was taken from us suddenly, and much, much too soon. Today the entire Fordham family mourns for Greg, and prays for his loved ones.”
Davis graduated from Ridgefield High School, in Connecticut, in 1999. He attended Indiana University, and graduated in 2003 with a bachelor’s degree in economics. An accomplished triathlete, his racing career was interrupted in 2006, when he was struck by a New York City taxicab. Davis spent three weeks in the hospital, and ultimately returned to racing in 2008.
Stuart J. Lipper, associate dean of academic programs at the Graduate School of Business, said that Davis had been pursuing an M.B.A. in taxation. He said he remembered meeting Davis when he applied to the program this past fall.
“I told him ‘Give me the best GMAT score you can’, and he did, so we enrolled him right on the spot,” he said. “He had been doing really well, both academically and socially. I always saw him at student events, and he was really happy these last few months.”
Davis is survived by his parents, Elyse and Jay Davis of Danbury, Conn., a brother, Ross, and sister-in-law, Erin, of Washington, D.C., and grandmother, Gloria Abrams of Florida.
The funeral was held Sunday, Feb. 14, at Temple Shearith Israel in Ridgefield, Conn. Davis was interred at Mount Hope Cemetery, Hastings-On-Hudson, N.Y.
Counseling and Psychological Services (CPS) is offering walk-in appointments and individual counseling to affected students. The Lincoln Center office is located in MacMahon Hall, Room 211, (212) 636-6225. They are also offering a bereavement group that is open to all students.

In honor and memory of the life and accomplishments of Gregory Davis, the Davis Family and JNFuture have created the Gregory A. Davis Memorial Fund.
All donations towards the fund will go to support the Rainwater Harvesting Program which directly collects, conserves and reuses water that would otherwise be wasted and educates children, Israel’s future leaders, scientists, and teachers, about the water crisis in the Middle East. JNFuture NYC has committed $50,000 to fully support the equipment, maintenance and education for one school. Once funding for the project is completed a commemorative plaque will be placed in the school, one that recognizes Greg’s commitment and passion for JNF and Israel.
