Applications for undergraduate admission to Fordham have skyrocketed, increasing by nearly 80 percent since 2001, according a report by the Office of Undergraduate Admission released in October. The report chronicles a steady increase in the number of applicants over the past six years. In 2001, 10,664 students applied for admission; by 2005 the number of applications had topped 15,000. This year, the number of applicants increased by 3,000, the single largest jump in six years.

In addition to the large increases in the number of applicants, the acceptance rate also has steadily declined over the past six years, from 55 percent in 2001 to 46 percent this year. The Class of 2010 is one of the most selective in Fordham’s history.

The percentage of minority students who have enrolled also has increased over the years, from 22 percent in 2002 to 26 percent this year. Hispanics made up the largest minority group among the Class of 2010 at 14 percent.

The top major for the freshman class was business (19.3 percent), followed by communications (5.7 percent), and political science (5.5). Some 28 percent of the entering class did not declare a major.
