Linda LoSchiavo, TMC ’72, GSAS ’90, has been named director of the Fordham libraries, the Office of the Provost announced on Jan. 22.
LoSchiavo has served as interim director since July 2012, when she replaced James McCabe, Ph.D., the retiring director. Previously LoSchiavo served as assistant director of libraries and director of the Quinn Library since 1991.
“Linda brings many years of collaborative leadership experience, innovative vision, and dedicated service to her work. She has a unique and unparalleled perspective on the ever-evolving role of Fordham’s libraries in advancing the culture of research,” said Stephen Freedman, Ph.D., university provost and professor of ecology and evolutionary biology. “We welcome her great enthusiasm to engage the University community in charting creative new directions to further develop sustainable models of scholarly communication.”
LoSchiavo holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in English from Fordham and a master’s in library science from Pratt Institute. She joined Fordham as a senior cataloger and, beginning in 1987, became head of a transformational initiative, the retrospective conversion project. As systems librarian in 1990-1991, she administered all automated library systems, as well as the circulation, acquisitions, and serials modules, and inaugurated a fully automated online library catalog at Fordham.
