TARRYTOWN, N.Y. — The largest entering freshman class in 27 years will take up residence at the Marymount Campus to start the fall 2002 semester on Saturday, Aug. 31, from 8:30 a.m. to noon at Marymount College of Fordham University, 100 Marymount Ave., Tarrytown, N.Y.
On July 1, 2002, Marymount College officially consolidated with Fordham University to create Marymount College of Fordham University — a new model of a women’s Catholic college that enjoys the academic and administrative resources of a major university while retaining the character of a small liberal arts college.
This fall, Marymount welcomes 356 new students, representing both freshmen and transfers, from 31 states and 10 foreign countries. Students were accepted from an applicant pool that increased by more than 100 percent over the past year. The 273-strong Class of 2006 will be the first to take Marymount’s new core curriculum, developed to be compatible with Fordham’s while retaining the unique characteristics of a women’s college experience. Among the new requirements is a First Semester Seminar, specifically designed to “introduce students to the college, bind them together, and help them understand the importance of a women’s college,” according to Father Gerard Reedy, S.J., dean of Marymount College of Fordham University.
