NEW YORK—John Timoney, a former deputy commissioner for the New York City Police Department, will present the 2005 Gannon Lecture titled “Changing Police Departments: New York, Philadelphia, and Miami” on Wednesday, March 30, at 3 p.m. in the Great Hall of Duane Library on the Rose Hill campus. The event is free and open to the public.

Timoney, a 1977 graduate of Fordham’s Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, joined the New York City Police Department in 1967 and rose through the ranks to become first deputy commissioner, the second highest rank in the department. Timoney later served for four years as the commissioner of the Philadelphia Police Department and for one year as the CEO of an international private investigation firm in New York. He has served as the chief of the City of Miami Police Department since 2003.

The Gannon Lecture series, which began more than 20 years ago, brings distinguished individuals to Fordham University to deliver public lectures. It is named in honor of the late Rev. Robert I. Gannon, S.J., president of Fordham from 1936 to 1949.
