As you all are aware, this weekend is the tenth anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in NYC. Credible but unconfirmed threats have been received by law enforcement of a potential attack on the U.S., possibly involving New York or Washington.
This threat has been deemed serious and law enforcement officials are attempting to determine its’ validity. NYPD and other law enforcement agencies have already heightened security i.e. set up vehicle, subway bag, toll and bridge checkpoints. Should any member of the Fordham University community need to travel within New York City, we suggest using mass transit to avoid delays from the aforementioned security checkpoints.
Quoting New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg: “The best thing that we can do to fight terror is to refuse to be intimidated by it. For ten years, we have not allowed terrorists to intimidate us. We have lived our lives without fear – we continue to do so. So go about your business as you normally would – but just be vigilant. If you see something potentially suspicious, call 311. And if you see something you think is potentially dangerous, call 911.”
Additionally, do not hesitate to contact Safety & Security at (718) 817-2222 for any suspicious activity observed i.e. visitors who claim to be lost/disoriented; unexpected deliveries or suspicious packages; unscheduled or unannounced maintenance work; and luggage or bags left unattended in public spaces.
“IF YOU SEE SOMETHING – SAY SOMETHING”
The Safety & Security Department will remain vigilant and will be in continual contact with local law enforcement officials. Any additional pertinent information will be shared with the Fordham University community.
