Fordham University mourns Nicholas Aleman, a Fordham College of Liberal Studies student at Lincoln Center, who was killed in Paktia province, Afghanistan, on Dec. 5, 2010, while on duty with the U.S. Marine Corps.
“I can’t imagine the grief Nicholas’s family and loved ones are feeling,” said Joseph M. McShane, S.J., president of Fordham. “To lose a child in the prime of life is the worst nightmare of every parent, and it is heartbreaking. I know the Fordham family joins with me in keeping Nicholas and his friends and loved ones in our prayers. May he rest in peace.”
Aleman, a native of Brooklyn, N.Y., had taken a leave of absence to return to duty in Afghanistan. He was on his second tour there.
A funeral service was held on Wednesday, Dec. 15, at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 862 Manhattan Ave., Greenpoint, Brooklyn, attracting hundreds of civilians and soldiers alike.
