Dear Members of the Fordham Community

By now I am sure that you have heard of the tragic events that unfolded on the campus of Virginia Tech yesterday morning, in which thirty-two people were killed and more than twenty were wounded by a gunman.  Such a killing spree would be shocking in any setting.  The fact that it took place on a university campus, a setting in which students expect that they will be protected, and in which we all expect reason and civility to hold sway, makes it all the more shocking.

I have written to Dr. Charles Steger, the President of Virginia Tech to offer him my condolences and assure him that the entire Fordham community will be praying for the VT community.  Therefore, I would like ask you to join me in praying both for the souls of those who have died, and for healing of those who mourn their deaths.

Sincerely,

Joseph M. McShane, S.J.
