In recognition of African-American History Month, Fordham will host a series of events at the Rose Hill and Lincoln Center campuses during the month of February.

Among those sponsoring lectures, training, and conversations on race are the Office of Multicultural Affairs (OMA), the Department of African and African American Studies, the Bronx African American History Project, and Asili the Black Student Alliance. Here is a sampling:

Fordham Department of African and African American Studies presents:
“Blending Scholarship and Activism: Race, Politics, Religion, and Social Justice”
Fri., Feb. 23 from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.

A panel discussion on contemporary social justice featuring:
Bryan Massingale, S.T.D., professor of theology
Mark Chapman, Ph.D., associate professor of African and African-American studies
Brandy Monk-Payton, Ph.D., assistant professor of communication and media studies

Fordham Athletics and ASILI – The Black Student Alliance at Fordham present:
Men’s Basketball vs George Mason  
Wed., Feb.7 at 7 p.m. 
ASILI will hold a t-shirt giveaway and celebrate Fordham’s own Black history with a slideshow of African American Alumni to be played during the game. The Bronx’s very own SEBNC Clovers will do a step performance at halftime.

This special Black History Month panel delves into what it means to be Black at Fordham. A panel of faculty, staff, and students will hold a discussion and answer questions that seeks to bridge gaps between communities.

Cajun Dining and Notes at Noon

Rose Hill Dining Hall, McGinley Center
Enjoy Cajun cuisine while taking in some live in the dining hall, with occasional trivia question thrown in to test your jazz knowledge.

This two week training brings together student, faculty, and staff to hold conversations about race and ethnicity in constructive and open manner.

Lincoln Center: Wed. Feb. 7 and Wed., Feb 14 from 1:30 p.m. to 4:15 p.m.

Black Self Care Week
Tues. Feb 20, 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.
Tabling at McGinley Center to get dialogue going on taking care of body and soul.

Colorism Dialogue
This Lincoln Center campus event will inspire conversations about racial prejudice that exists within communities of color.
“Sometimes people don’t have the words to deal with this when it happens, but it happens a lot,” said Juan Carlos Matos, assistant vice president for Student Affairs for Diversity and Inclusion.
The event date and location have yet to be determined.
