The Fordham women’s basketball team will be joining schools across the nation in support of the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Pink Zone initiative.

The team has designated its Feb. 14 match-up against St. Bonaventure and its Feb. 18 game versus Saint Joseph’s as “Pink Zone” games.

The Pink Zone is a global, unified effort for the WBCA nation of coaches to assist in raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond.

A donation of $5 is suggested, with all contributions to be given to the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund.

Kay Yow, North Carolina State University head women’s basketball coach, was a past president and founding member of the WBCA and was a galvanizing voice for the association. After battling three different stints with breast cancer, Yow passed away on Jan. 24.

“I knew Coach Yow for over 30 years and coached against her when I was at East Carolina,” said Fordham women’s basketball head coach Cathy Andruzzi. “She was a first-class coach and a first-class person. I am proud that the women’s basketball community, through the WBCA’s Pink Zone initiative, has come together over the last several years to raise awareness about, and funds for, breast cancer research.”

All fans who wear pink to the games will be admitted free. Fans who do not own pink shirts will be admitted free if they are among the first 250 people to enter the gate, where they will receive a free pink t-shirt, rally towel and pom-pom.

The Feb. 14 game against St. Bonaventure is slated for a 1 p.m. tip-off. The Feb. 18 match-up versus Saint Joseph’s will begin at 7 p.m. To buy tickets to either game, contact the Fordham Athletic Ticket Office at (718) 817-4300.
