Simone Schweber, Ph.D., the Goodman Professor of Education and Jewish Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, will speak at Fordham’s Westchester campus at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 31.
In “Controversies and Consistencies in Holocaust Education: A Review of Research on Teaching,” Schweber will discuss three key debates in approaches to Holocaust education, examining them against the backdrop of how the subject is actually taught.
It’s a subject in which she is well versed, having authored Making Sense of the Holocaust: Lessons from Classroom Practice (Teachers College Press, 2004). By looking at Holocaust education in very institutional contexts and age groups, she will illuminate consistencies across classrooms.
The lecture is co-sponsored by the Holocaust and Human Rights Education Center and Fordham’s Graduate School of Religion and Religious Education. For more information, call (914) 696-0738 or info@hhrecny.org.
