Archbishop Edward Egan will preside over The Mass of the Holy Spirit on Tuesday, Sept. 12, at 3 p.m in St. Paul the Apostle Church, 415 W. 59th St. The Rev. Joseph A. O’Hare, president of Fordham University will concelebrate the mass. The Mass of the Holy Spirit is a tradition that began in the 13th Century at what was then called the Red Mass, named after the red vestments donned by academicians and presiding clergy. The votive Mass of the Holy Spirit is offered to invoke wisdom and guidance in the coming school year and is celebrated annually by Catholic and Jesuit universities around the world. This is Egan’s first visit to Fordham since becoming Archbishop.
