DESCRIPTION:Make someone’s holidays bright this year by contributing to our annual toy drive benefiting the kids and families at Elizabeth Seton Children’s in Yonkers. From Dec. 2 through Dec. 20\, help us collect toys for children needing specialized medical\, nursing\, rehabilitative\, and educational services. \nAll toys\, clothes\, and donations must be new due to heightened infection–control precautions. Additionally\, we cannot accept any plush toys. New clothes\, long socks\, and sports bras of all sizes are welcomed\, especially clothes for older teenagers and young adults. Wish list items include Mozart Music Cube\, Learning Cube\, stroller clip–on toys\, and soft fabric headbands for babies and infants; bibs\, Fisher Price toys\, and LeapFrog My Pals for toddlers; and CD players and hair scrunchies for older children and teens. \nWe’ll be accepting donations at several drop-off locations\, including the Fordham Westchester campus\, the Westchester Bank (seven locations)\, PKF O’Connor Davies\, Club Pilates (two locations)\, Solar Electric\, and Pelham Elementary School. \nMerry Christmas!

SUMMARY:GSS Continuing Education: Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias
DESCRIPTION:The goal of this class is to provide an introduction and overview of the topic\, including the definition of Alzheimer’s disease and identification of related dementias; the multilevel effect of dementia on individuals and their family members; interventions for effective practice; and community agencies and resources. Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias are significant health issues faced by many individuals and their families. The often incurable nature of the disease\, long trajectory of the illness\, and usually silent symptoms during the onset all contribute to making dementia\, which includes Alzheimer’s disease\, one of the most difficult experiences for both the individual and the family caregivers. Social workers who work with older adults and family caregivers must be knowledgeable about dementia diagnoses\, including Alzheimer’s disease. Understanding the physical trajectory and symptomatology of dementia\, and the psychosocial\, financial\, and other consequences of dementia are critical to effective practice. \nParticipants will be able to: \n\nIdentify the etiology and symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias.\nIdentify the trajectory of Alzheimer’s disease.\nDescribe the cumulative impact of dementia on the family system and the multiple factors affecting caregiving.\nIdentify appropriate interventions to assist individuals with dementia and their families in future planning for health care decisions that are based on the unique needs of clients.

The Ram’s Den is a launch pad for new ventures led by Fordham alumni and current students. The competition is open to all early stage ventures and will provide $50\,000 in cash plus associated services to winning teams selected by a panel of judges who work in the venture capital and startup communities. This is also an excellent opportunity to network with potential mentors\, investors\, and advisors. Last year’s sponsors included the NASDAQ Educational Foundation and Goodwin.

DESCRIPTION:The Marymount Alumnae Board\, administrators\, members of the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary (R.S.H.M.) and their families\, and Fordham University’s Office of Alumni Relations invite you to a gathering celebrating Marymount College’s founding in 1907 by Mother Marie Joseph Butler. \nThis year’s event celebrates the 25th anniversary of the R.S.H.M. LIFE Center. The Mission of the Center is to welcome the needy\, especially women and children\, and to create with them a culture that nurtures their human development. The Center serves individuals of all faiths and cultural traditions. With the belief that Learning Is For Everyone (LIFE)\, the Center has a whole family orientation in all of its programs\, from toddlers to senior citizens. It focuses on the learning needs of the entire family and provides free child care for adults taking programs. The LIFE Center believes that getting to know the families and involving them in the Center’s programs helps build stronger community relationships. \nSusan Gardella\, R.S.H.M.\, will give remarks about the history of the LIFE Center and where it is now. There will also be a panel featuring employees of the Center as well as former Marymount students who volunteered there. The panelists will discuss the impact the LIFE Center has had on them. \nThere will be a Ram Van minivan available to transport guests between the parking garage and Butler Commons. Times available: 11:45 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. \nMake a Day of It \nBefore the event\, there will be Mass at 11 a.m. in the University Church. There will be a special mention of Sr. Brigid Driscoll\, who passed away in October of last year. All are welcome to attend. \nAfter the event\, join us for the annual Festival of Lessons and Carols in the University Church at 4:30 p.m. Early arrival is highly recommended as seats fill up quickly.
