SUMMARY:Compassion for Ourselves
DESCRIPTION:Tiffany Schiller\, a foundation-year student in the graduate school of social service\, will be offering a free all-levels Yoga class. \nThis 40-minute class will focus on breath work and simple vinyasa sequencing. Classes will be suited for all levels\, including those who have never attempted yoga before. \nThe intention of this class is to invite yoga as a form of self-care into the everyday lives of social work students. Inspired by the words of Audre Lord—“Caring for myself is not self-indulgence\, it is self-preservation\, and that is an act of political warfare”—Tiffany hopes to aid social work students in learning to self-advocate by first finding compassion for themselves and others on a yoga mat. \nPlease bring your own mat and wear clothing that you are comfortable moving around in. This event is open to all Fordham GSS students and alumni. \nIf you have any questions or concerns (e.g.\, “I don’t have a yoga mat\, what do I do?”) please reach out to Tiffany Schiller at tschiller@fordham.edu.

SUMMARY:Faculty Spotlight 2018: Stephan Apicella-Hitchcock\, Anibal Pella-Woo\, and Mark Street
DESCRIPTION:The current display of works in Fordham University’s Ildiko Butler Gallery is the 2018 installment of the annual Faculty Spotlight Exhibition. Each spring\, three members from the Department of Theater and Visual Art are asked to share a sampling of their production with the Fordham community. Mark Street represents the film/video concentration; the photography concentration is represented by both Stephan Apicella-Hitchcock and Anibal Pella-Woo. Despite the differences in their mediums and approaches\, their works generate a lively dialogue around narrative strategies\, presentation of history\, and representational methods. \nThis exhibition runs from June 4\, 2018 to September 14\, 2018.

SUMMARY:100 Photography Alumni
DESCRIPTION:The current exhibition in Fordham University’s Lipani Gallery features 100 photography alumni from across twenty years. DESCRIPTION:Join us at Rose Hill for the annual\, one day Alumni and Friends Retreat based on Ignation spirituality. The theme of the retreat will be understanding Jesus’ surrender to God and its meaning for us Christians: we will explore how the giving over of ourselves to the living God helps us find our true selves and keeps us spiritually healthy. \nOur director\, Fr. He then was involved in retreat work and campus ministry until 2006. He was Minister of the Fordham Jesuit Community at Rose Hill until 2012. He is currently on the staff of the Loyola Center\, Morristown\, NJ\, active in retreat ministry. \nThis event costs $40 per person and includes a light breakfast and lunch. \nFree parking is available on campus in the parking facility. Please let the guard at the gate know you are arriving to attend the Alumni Retreat. \nRegistration will close on Friday\, June 15.

SUMMARY:Third International Agunah Summit—Divorce Settlement Abuse and Extortion in Jewish Law
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the third International Agunah Summit—Divorce Settlement Abuse and Extortion in Jewish Law. \nAs any family law litigator can attest\, divorces can be extremely contentious. But when the marriage was created via an Orthodox Jewish wedding\, the conflict is magnified to its highest level. That is because Jewish law requires that an Orthodox Jewish wedding be terminated not only by civil law\, but also by a Jewish divorce\, called a Get. Without a Get\, the parties are not considered divorced—and the consequences\, especially for a woman\, are life-altering. \nFollowing the first Agunah Summit\, which highlighted the legal-religious solutions to this problem\, and the second Agunah Summit\, which dealt with various institutional aspects\, this third Agunah Summit will explore the dynamics created by the implementation of Jewish religious divorce laws in the fields of sociology\, economics\, law\, and ethics\, and address the broad influence of these dynamics not only on the Get-refused Agunah but on the divorce settlements of all Jewish women whose marriages are terminated under religious law. \nThis event is sponsored by Fordham Law School’s Institute On Religion\, Law and Lawyer’s Work\, the faculty of law at New York University\, and the Center for Jewish and Democratic Law at Bar Ilan University.
