SUMMARY:Vontobel Asset Management Information Session
DESCRIPTION:Vontobel Asset Management will be coming to Fordham to introduce ourselves and discuss a potential job opportunity for graduating seniors on our research team. \nA little about Vontobel: we are an institutional investor based in New York with Zurich roots. We have about $35 billion under management on behalf of foundations\, pensions\, and governments. Our patient\, growth-oriented investment approach focuses on investing in high-quality companies that we believe will perform well during economic expansions\, are resilient in difficult economic environments\, and can compound our clients’ capital at a higher rate than the market over time. \nExecuting this long investment strategy is our research team\, which is looking to add research analyst roles. Each member of the analyst team plays an integral role in the implementation of our investment discipline. Analysts are generalists and conduct fundamental bottom-up security analyses on particular stocks. As such\, they act as much as stock analysts as they do business analysts to gain a deep understanding of the industries\, competitive environment\, positioning\, as well as the sustainability and durability of the business economics of the companies they investigate. \nPlease come by and see us to learn more about Vontobel and this exciting opportunity!

SUMMARY:"Elevate Your Pitch" Workshop and Social
DESCRIPTION:The Graduate Student Association and GSAS Futures invite you to “elevate your pitch” in an evening workshop and social. Delivering an effective career pitch\, or an “elevator floor speech\,” that presents your research and work experience in a quick and compelling way is a vital part of performing well in job interview and networking settings. Crucial to interviewing well in any field\, mastering an effective career pitch is especially pertinent on the academic job market\, where your first interview could amount to a very brief affair at a conference in your discipline. \nGiven the opportunity\, how would you present your research and work experience to a colleague in your field? A non-specialist? Your grandma? \nThis event will help you to translate your work across audiences as you collaborate with peers to draft pitches appropriate for a range of conversations. \nAttendees will discuss when to use or leave behind specialist language depending on the needs of the moment while still conveying the substance of their research along with their unique set of skills and experiences. Come “elevate your pitch” in a light and friendly setting. \nYou’ll also have an opportunity to learn more about the upcoming GSAS Three Minute Thesis competition. Pizza and refreshments will be served!

SUMMARY:Alan Blinder on Economics and Politics
DESCRIPTION:Presented by the Gabelli Center\, the Fixed Income Analyst Society\, and the New York Alternative Hedgefund Roundtable \nAlan Blinder\, Ph.D.\, leading economist and political expert\, will discuss the clash of economics and politics through the words of his new book\, Advice and Dissent: Why America Suffers When Economics and Politics Collide. \nAmerican economic policy and politicians historically have had complications connecting on their viewpoints. The cultural divide separates these two forums\, which the country expects to be unified and run efficiently. To a fault\, politicians are concerned with winning elections and keeping their counterparts satisfied while economists\nprovide their calculated standpoint\, leaving our nation in a world full of disconnect. Blinder will discuss ways to bridge the gap between these two parties to encourage unity amongst the leaders of our nation. \nThe first 100 attendees will receive a copy of his book Why Economics and Politics Collide.
