SUMMARY:Wikipedia Edit-a-thon: Celebrating Women's History
DESCRIPTION:This event is designed to improve coverage of women to mitigate the gender gap on Wikipedia. The edit-a-thon will include tutorials for the beginner Wikipedian\, ongoing editing support\, reference materials\, and refreshments. This event is free\, and people of all gender identities and expressions are encouraged to participate. \nWikipedia is the largest knowledge base on the planet and although Wikipedia is the fifth-most visited website\, its lack of diverse race and gender content reflects the homogeneity of its editors. In a 2018 survey\, the Wikimedia Foundation found that less than 10% of its contributors identify as female (see the “Gender bias on Wikipedia” entry). Fewer than 17% of the biographies on Wikipedia are of women. \nParticipate in this edit-a-thon and help increase the coverage of women on Wikipedia.

SUMMARY:Punch Card Conference: “Value Over the Long Term”
DESCRIPTION:Are YOU ready to punch in?\nJoin us at this conference in New York City to support the project and its mission. \nOur goal at Project Punch Card is to foster long-term investment orientation among students underrepresented in the investment research and management business. \nPunch Card Conference:\n“Value Over the Long-Term”\nThe Project Punch Card Conference is the inaugural event for Project Punch Card\, a non-profit focused on long-term investment orientation. The conference will be all about the long term. You’ll hear from thought leaders in the value investing community about what it means to be long term-oriented. \nWhat is long-term value investing?\nHow is it different from other investing?\nDoes it provide an edge?\nWhy should one choose long-term orientation?\nHow can students think long-term especially while investing?\nHow should investors handle large drawdowns? When is the stock price decline due to a long-term reduction in the business’s value and when is it temporary?\nGreatest Hits Stories: Certain companies that were excellent long-term (20 years+) had several pitfalls and terrible stock return periods.\nIn the Best Ideas Presentations\, you will hear from the successful investors on their current investment ideas. \nWho is it for? \nWe expect a blend of portfolio managers\, investment advisors\, analysts\, and allocators (i.e pension funds\, endowments\, insurance\, FOF\, etc). Ideally\, we would like people from the target communities—women\, people of color\, or graduates of underprivileged colleges in the investment industry. Marketing and strategic partners such as CAIA Association may also be a material component of the audience composition. \nWhat is included? \nBreakfast\, full sit-down lunch\, coffee breaks\, and networking opportunities.

SUMMARY:Merger Masters: Tales of Arbitrage\, presented by Kate Welling and Mario Gabelli
DESCRIPTION:This presentation by Kate Welling\, the publisher of the financial journal Welling on Wall St.\, and Mario Gabelli\, the chairman and CEO of Gamco Investors\, Inc.\, will reveal profiles of monumentally successful merger investors based on exclusive interviews with some of the greatest minds to practice the art of arbitrage. Michael Price\, John Paulson\, Paul Singer\, and others offer practical perspectives on how their backgrounds in the risk-conscious world of merger arbitrage helped them make their biggest deals. They share their insights on the discipline that underlies their fortunes\, whether they practice the “plain vanilla” strategy of announced deals\, the aggressive strategy of activist investment\, or any strategy in between on the risk spectrum. \nMerger Masters delves into the human side of risk arbitrage\, exploring how top practitioners deal with the behavioral aspects of generating consistent profits from risk arbitrage. The book also includes perspectives from the other side of the mergers and acquisitions divide in the form of interviews with a trio of iconic CEOs: Bill Stiritz\, Peter McCausland\, and Paul Montrone. All three took advantage of M&A opportunities to help build long-term returns but often found themselves at odds with the short-term focus of Wall Street and merger investors. Told in lively\, accessible prose\, with bonus facts and figures for transaction junkies\, Merger Masters is an incomparable set of stories with plenty of unfiltered lessons from the best managers of our time. \nThe first 250 attendees will receive a copy of this book. \nSponsored by the CFA Society of NY\, the Gabelli Center for Global Security Analysis\, and the Museum of American Finance

SUMMARY:Vontobel Asset Management Information Session
DESCRIPTION:Vontobel Asset Management will be coming to Fordham to introduce ourselves and discuss a potential job opportunity for graduating seniors on our research team. \nA little about Vontobel: we are an institutional investor based in New York with Zurich roots. We have about $35 billion under management on behalf of foundations\, pensions\, and governments. Our patient\, growth-oriented investment approach focuses on investing in high-quality companies that we believe will perform well during economic expansions\, are resilient in difficult economic environments\, and can compound our clients’ capital at a higher rate than the market over time. \nExecuting this long investment strategy is our research team\, which is looking to add research analyst roles. Each member of the analyst team plays an integral role in the implementation of our investment discipline. Analysts are generalists and conduct fundamental bottom-up security analyses on particular stocks. As such\, they act as much as stock analysts as they do business analysts to gain a deep understanding of the industries\, competitive environment\, positioning\, as well as the sustainability and durability of the business economics of the companies they investigate. \nPlease come by and see us to learn more about Vontobel and this exciting opportunity!
