DESCRIPTION:Whether facilitating a family meeting\, conducting an advance care planning conversation\, or providing discharge planning\, health social workers are involved as educators in almost every aspect of their practice\, yet few have had explicit training to maximize their effectiveness in this role. This interactive webinar will cover principles of adult education (andragogy) and explore strategies to enhance your influence and impact\, whether in formal educational roles (giving grand rounds\, guest speaking\, presenting at conferences)\, as supervisors\, mentors or sponsors (giving feedback and coaching support)\, or as organizational and community experts (providing advocacy regarding the impact of policies\, etc.). SUMMARY:Conversations with Humanitarians: Barbra Lukunka\, Senior Policy and Programme Officer at the IOM-UN Migration
DESCRIPTION:Join the Institute of International Humanitarian Affairs (IIHA) for a conversation with Barbra Lukunka\, Ph.D.\, senior policy and programme officer at the International Organization for Migration (IOM) at the United Nations office in New York. In this role\, she leads a small team focused on IOM’s engagement with the U.N. peace and security pillar. Together with her team\, she also backstops country offices by providing policy\, guidance and programming support on peace-building and humanitarian initiatives. Prior to joining IOM\, she worked with the U.N. Secretariat in New York in DPPA and in DPO. She also has field experience with the U.N. in Burundi and Haiti. She has a Ph.D. in social cultural anthropology and has several academic publications stemming from her dissertation focused on forced migration\, peace-building and return/reintegration into the country of origin after multiple episodes and prolonged exile. \nShe’ll cover topics such as the migration landscape\, IOM’s work at the global\, regional\, and national levels\, and what a typical day at IOM looks like for her. As well as how she has navigated her career & offer tips on searching for career opportunities. This is a great opportunity for peer-to-peer networking with fellow students and networking with a humanitarian professional and migration expert! \nRefreshments will be served.
