DESCRIPTION:The NYCDH group is happy to announce the 3rd Annual NYCDH Week\, February 5-9\, 2018 (http://dhweek.nycdh.org/). Taking place at institutions throughout New York City\, NYCDH Week gives individuals across the region who are interested in digital humanities an opportunity to learn new techniques and skills\, meet new people\, and become re-acquainted with the community. \nJoin us for the Kickoff Day at Fordham University! Following last year’s highly successful event\, NYCDH Week 2018 begins on February 5 with a kickoff gathering at Lincoln Center Campus (113 W. 60th St.\, 12th Floor). Our theme this year is DH in the Moment: Reaction\, Response\, Relevance. The day-long event features speakers\, round tables\, lightning talks and networking sessions. The rest of the week will consist of a diverse selection of free workshops hosted at a wide range of institutions across the city. \nVolunteer to teach a workshop at NYC DH Week! Graduate students\, librarians\, faculty\, museum workers\, independent scholars\, tech companies and others are welcome to become part of our programming. To sign up to teach a workshop please sign up at the website: http://dhweek.nycdh.org/. \nNYCDH Week’s series of wide-ranging workshops are open to everyone. Registration to attend a workshop will be opened soon!\nSponsors Bard Graduate Center\, Columbia University\, CUNY Graduate Center\, Fordham University\, New York Public Library\, NYU\, Pratt Institute\, and The Frick Collection

SUMMARY:GSAS Three-Minute Thesis Information Session
DESCRIPTION:Attend this information session to learn about the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (GSAS) Three-Minute Thesis (3MT®) Competition. \nThe Three-Minute Thesis (3MT®) is a research communication competition developed in 2008 by the University of Queensland in Australia. The premise of the competition is to develop academic\, presentation\, and research communication skills. 3MT® supports the development of students’ capacity to effectively explain their research in language appropriate to an intelligent but non-specialist audience. Contestants have three minutes to present compelling orations on their thesis or dissertation research and its significance and value. One PowerPoint slide is required with no animation permitted. 3MT® is not an exercise in “watering down” research; rather\, it forces students to consolidate their ideas and concisely explain their research discoveries. \nDon’t miss this opportunity to practice your presentation skills and have a chance to win up to $750 in prizes!
