SUMMARY:Young Alumni Committee Meeting February 2020
DESCRIPTION:What will happen at the meeting? \nConnect with fellow young alumni in NYC. \nOur subcommittees will have some time to discuss upcoming programs and events. Have an idea of your own? Submit a potential agenda item. \nWhat is the Young Alumni Committee (YAC)? \nThe Fordham University YAC is an advisory board which serves to further strengthen the relationship between young alumni\, the University\, the student body\, and Fordham’s local communities. The YAC meets regularly to coordinate social events\, educational programs\, professional development opportunities\, and community service projects for Fordham’s young alumni population (graduates of the last decade). \nThe committee is composed of four dedicated subcommittees: \nCommunications\nPhilanthropy\nSocial Justice\nSpecial Events and Professional Development \nAll are welcome and snacks will be provided. \nWant to get involved but live outside of the NYC area? Contact Matt Burns at mburns2@fordham.edu.

SUMMARY:Day at the UN
DESCRIPTION:Please join your fellow Fordham alumni and friends for this truly unique experience. We will begin the day with a guided tour of the U.N.\, and then we’ll enjoy a private briefing from an U.N. official. The briefing topic will be within the area of economic and social development. \nWe’re pleased to announce that Fordham’s own Melissa Labonte\, interim dean of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences\, will join us as our guest speaker. Dean Labonte will join us for both components of the event and will share her expertise with us throughout the day. \nGuided U.N. Tour \nThis tour offers an exciting opportunity to get a behind-the-scenes view of the organization at work. Visit the newly renovated General Assembly Hall\, the Security Council Chamber\, the Trusteeship Council Chamber\, and the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Chamber in the renovated Conference Building. Learn about how the United Nations addresses issues such as disarmament\, peace and security\, human rights\, and the Millennium Development Goals. \nSpeakers Bureau Briefing \nA United Nations expert will provide an in-depth look into the latest issues on their agenda. The goal of a briefing is to further an understanding of and an appreciation for the work of the United Nations. This provides an invaluable educational opportunity tailored specifically to our group. \nPlease note: Due to new security rules\, all visitors 18 years of age or older are now required to present government-issued photo identification to enter United Nations Headquarters. Accepted forms of identification include passports\, driver’s licenses\, and national identity cards. \nFor security reasons\, children under 5 years of age are not permitted on tour. \nThis event does not include lunch\, but the Visitors Café at the U.N. Visitor Centre serves a variety of international cuisines\, beverages\, and coffees. Vending machines are also available for something quick. \nThis event costs $30 per person. \nAn email reminder with meeting details will be sent to all registrants one week prior to the event.
