SUMMARY:SOLD OUT: Day at the United Nations
DESCRIPTION:Please join your fellow Fordham alumni and friends for this truly unique experience. We will begin the day with a guided tour of the U.N.\, and then we’ll enjoy a private briefing from a U.N. official. The briefing topic will be within the area of humanitarian affairs. \nWe’re pleased to announce that Fordham’s own Melissa Labonte\, associate dean for strategic initiatives at the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences\, will join us as our guest speaker. Dean Labonte will join us for both components of the event and will share her expertise with us throughout the day. \nGuided U.N. Tour \nThis tour offers an exciting opportunity to get a behind-the-scenes view of the organization at work. Visit the newly renovated General Assembly Hall\, the Security Council Chamber\, the Trusteeship Council Chamber\, and the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Chamber in the renovated Conference Building. Learn about how the United Nations addresses issues such as disarmament\, peace and security\, human rights\, and the Millennium Development Goals. \nSpeakers Bureau Briefing \nA United Nations expert will provide an in-depth look into the latest issues on their agenda. The goal of a briefing is to further an understanding of and an appreciation for the work of the United Nations. This provides an invaluable educational opportunity tailored specifically to our group. \nPlease note: Due to new security rules\, all visitors over 18 years of age now require government-issued photo identification to enter United Nations Headquarters. Accepted forms of identification include passports\, driver’s licenses\, and national identity cards. \nFor security reasons\, children under five years of age are not permitted on the tour. \nThis event does not include lunch\, but the U.N. will recommend nearby restaurants. There’s also a small cafeteria that serves snacks located at the U.N. \nThis event costs $30 per person. \nAn email reminder with meeting details will be sent to all registrants one week prior to the event.
