Gannon Lecture: Markets, Morals And Civic Life

Noted Harvard University Professor Michael Sandel will deliver the 2001 Gannon Lecture titled “Are There Some Things Money Can’t Buy?: Markets, Morals and Civic Life,” on Tuesday, Feb. 13, at 12 p.m. in Flom Auditorium, Walsh Library, Rose Hill Campus. Sandel, a professor of government, chairs the faculty advisory board of the Institute of Politics and the faculty committee that oversees the Moral Reasoning component of the Core Curriculum at Harvard. He is the author of Democracy’s Discontent: America in Search of a Public Philosophy, a book that has spearked discussions about American politics, philosophy and law. The Gannon Lecture series, which began more than 20 years ago, brings distinguished individuals to Fordham University to deliver public lectures. It is named in honor of the late Rev. Robert I. Gannon, S.J., president of Fordham from 1936-1949.
