Daylight-saving time begins on Sunday, March 11, and all Fordham University employees should review information and, if necessary, download a patch at www.fordham.edu/dst to insure that their computers will be ready for the change.
Traditionally, the switch takes place in April but because of a new federal law to save energy, daylight-saving time arrives three weeks early this year and will last one week longer. The changes have caused problems for many information technology departments, which have had to update software that is set to automatically turn the clock on the first week in April.
Computers and applications must be patched to reflect the new daylight-saving time protocols. Fordham IT, which supports the University’s information, communication and technology operations, has already updated and patched many University systems and servers. However, all employees must update their Windows and Macintosh computers with operating system patches. For help, contact the Fordham help desk at (718) 817-3999 or via e-mail at helpdesk@fordham.edu.
